The Town Mayor

in Newport Pagnell the role of  Chairman of the Council is combined with that of Town Mayor.

The Town Mayor is responsible for ensuring that effective and lawful decisions are taken at meetings of the council.  He or she works with the Town Clerk to make sure the Council is properly informed for making lawful decisions during meetings.  As Chairman he or she facilitates the resolving of clear decisions.  The Chairman has a casting vote in the event of a tied vote.

The Town Mayor is also the public face of the Council and often speaks on behalf of the Town Council.

On 9th May 2011 Cllr Wendy Egan was elected Town Mayor.

Message from the incoming Mayoress

It was both an honour and a pleasure to be asked to represent Newport Pagnell as Mayoress for the coming year, having been elected to the role at the Annual Council Meeting held in May.

I would like to thank my predecessor Councillor Ian Carman, for his help during my time as Deputy Mayoress and hope to follow in his footsteps in continuing to support the town in its future development.

As Ian’s deputy, one of my roles involved promoting Newport Pagnell in the Britain in Bloom competition.  This was a new venture for us as a town and we achieved a well deserved Silver award on our first attempt. We hope to keep building on this success and this year I am keen to aim for the Gold award.

Another key interest of mine is helping organizations to raise much needed funds and I am always willing to help local groups in their attempts to do so.  This year I put together a team of swimmers to take part in the Disabled Swimming club’s Swimathon held at Middleton pool in February and I am pleased to say that approximately £3000 was raised on the day.

I have been involved in Newport Pagnell Carnival for more than a decade, the last few years as Chair of the Committee.  The Carnival has been running for 50 years and brings a great sense of tradition and community to the town.  It is great to see so many residents lining the parade route and showing their support for those taking part.

The coming year will, no doubt, offer us new challenges and I look forward to representing the town and serving as Chair of the Town Council and Mayoress. You can rest assured that my aim will be to act in the best interests of the residents at all times.

Cllr Wendy Egan
