Half Day-School: A Herbal Walk                                                           Tutor: David Hammond

Details: Sunday 05/09/2010 2.00pm – 4.00pm                                        Fee £8            

Venue: Rectory Cottages, Church Green Road, Bletchley                    

Take a gentle stroll to look at the herbs growing wild around the Rectory Cottages area. David will be telling you a little about the herbs and how they are used medicinally today, and also some lore about how they were used in the past.

Poetry of the 60’s                                                                                   Tutor: Peter Leyland

The course is for those who are interested in the upsurge in performance poetry during the Sixties which continues today in the work of poets like Benjamin Zephaniah. This upsurge could be said to have started at the great Albert Hall Poetry Festival in 1965 and continued in books like the Mersey Sound. You are invited to the experience of this poetry with a tutor who has both written and performed his own work in the past.

The architecture of London displays the work of UK architects of international standing. A number of the most important of these buildings are clustered around the Bank of England in the City of London. We will take a walking tour around this central area of the City to see buildings such as James Stirling’s Number One Poultry, Norman Foster’s 30 St Mary Axe (the Gherkin) and Richard Rogers’ Lloyds Building and 88 Wood Street

Our North American literary theme continues with poems by E.E.Cummings and Ogden Nash, followed by 'Death of a Salesman' by Arthur Miller, and finishing with 'The Stone Diaries' by Carol Shields

Since the death of Chairman Mao in 1976 China has undergone a massive transformation, and is now spoken of as a rival to the US for world leadership. During this day school we will look at political and social changes, economic achievements, growing freedoms, and the problems China faces in the new century.

Day-School: Growing Fruit and Vegetables the Organic Way         Tutor: Martin Horne

This course will look at modern herbal medicine, and how natural plant based medicines are used today to treat a wide variety of conditions safely. In addition, we will be looking at how you can make your own tinctures, teas, creams, ointments etc, from herbs that grow in your garden and in the countryside around you.

Venue: Methodist Church, Silver Street, Stony Stratford

Great illustrations help to make memorable books.  This study day explores great illustrated books from the early days of printing through Dickens, Lewis Carroll, Beatrix Potter, Arthur Rackham, E.H. Shepard (Winnie-the-Pooh) to Ardizzone, Ronald Searle and the fine children's illustrators of the present day. There is much to explore and enjoy.
